God"s Light and Peace All The Time And My Poem

Another week is half over and things are going pretty good. We had a bit of a scare last week and my daughter had to have some tests done. With lots of prayer we got through it all.  God does answer prayer we got the report back and it was normal so I want to say thank you God. When we pray we sometimes forget the next step of thanking God for his answering our prayers. I share this because not only did God answer our prayer about the tests but God also gave me a peace that helped me and her get through the tests and waiting. Like it says in this verse
 John 14:27 KJV

The one thing we know that God is always in control and that we can trust Him no matter what. He holds our hand and guides us through if we turn to him.

Just like the lighthouse pictured here God is our light to guide us in good times and the storms of life. His light always shines bright and as long as we keep our eyes on the light we will not stray or get lost. I see the lighthouse and I remember that though storms in life come along God is with us lighting our way all we have to do is rely on Him. A verse I like says to not be afraid or discouraged in fact it is a command and one I think of when storms come my way.
Joshua 1:9  NIV "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Here is a poem I wrote awhile back I will share again with you. I hope it will lift you up

My Life’s Light

I will trust you where ever you lead me
I will trust you in both the calm and stormy seas
I will follow the path you set before me
I will lean on your love and hope you give me freely
For you are the light that guides my path along my way
You are my guide through each and every day
Like the captain on the sea I will look to the light
Always keeping that beam in my sight.
For you my Lord, are my light
On whom I will keep my sight

God is our Light and here is my verse to memorize this week

John 8:12 KJV  "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."

Struggles We All Have Them Or I Am Not Super Woman Just God's Woman

I was thinking Monday that the old saying when it rains it pours sometimes seems so real. One thing I know for sure is that you can expect things not to be smooth and easy all the time. It is how we handle these times that is important. Do we get upset and depressed? Do we think God is forgetting about us or that he doesn't care about us? Do we want to just scream and pull our hair out? I think at times we have all felt like this and had these questions but being able to bounce back and get back on the right track is what is important.

As a Christian we sometimes think we shouldn't have any trouble but that isn't true. God even tells us there will be trouble.

John 16:33 NIV
33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

 2 Cor. 4:8-9 KJV
We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;

The good news is that God tells us there will be trouble but does not leave us there He tells us that when we are His children that when the trouble comes He is our answer. John says in this world you will have trouble but our answer is God has overcome the world.
In Cor. Paul tells us we are troubled then lists ways we are, troubled not distressed, perplexed not in despair, persecuted but not forsaken and cast down not destroyed. In other words bad things happen but we have God on our side and we don't have to give in to the trouble just trust in God and turn it over to Him.

Sometimes it seems like it just all happens at once and I laugh and say God I am not Super Woman but then I am reminded that I don't have to be Super Woman just God's woman that has faith and prays. Three months ago my Dad died suddenly then my granddaughter fell at work and broke her arm and elbow which she had to have surgery on to piece back together with a plate and screws. Then cars broke down and Grandson is having to have tests and on and on. I was reminded of the verses above and that I am not alone. My first response is to pray. I turn it over to God and then trust Him. When I can do this then I know what it means in the Bible when it says we will have Peace.

Phil. 4:7 KJV And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus

So in times of struggle, grief and trouble fix your eyes, heart and mind on God and you can be God's Super Woman (or man) of Faith.

Isaiah 26: 3-4 KJV
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength:

God is our source of strength and peace in time of struggles, trouble and grief.

I suggest that we memorize these verses so that we are reminded of them often.

Keeping inTouch

As you might have noticed I have been quiet lately. There is a good reason for this and that is we do not have regular Internet right now we opted to drop the service we have and plan to get something else when we find something that works for us. I hope it will not be too long but until then I will try to post something once a week. I hope you will all stick with me and watch for future posts. I am hoping to grow my blogs and to get more followers. Stay tuned we will be back shortly.

This week’s post I thought I might share with you what I have been doing and reading. I have a couple of suggestions of books for Christmas gifts this year too. So let’s get started.

On Labor Day my husband had a 3 day weekend. We didn’t have anything really planned but relaxing and when I say relaxing I mean going to a museum and parade. We started out by going to the Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm in Olathe Ks. We enjoyed looking at all the buildings and interacting with the living history people at the farm. The one thing I didn’t do was take the few minute Stagecoach Ride but if I had taken the grandkids with me I probably would have. This is a nice little outing and really didn’t cost that much, $6 for adults which helps them keep the place going. They have a couple of special days coming up that we plan on going to, first is the Wild West Days and the other is Cemetery Tours. I will be posting later about them. On Monday we went and enjoyed the Louisburg KS Labor Day parade with our son, daughter in law and little grandson. He seemed to enjoy it more this year. Funniest thing he did was when they threw candy to the kids he picked it up and threw it back to them. That’s what we encourage him to do when we are playing catch so I guess that is what he thought he was supposed to do. He loved the band especially the drums, maybe he is a musician at heart. We had a good weekend and it was nice to not have to hurry around to get the hubby off to work and all the other things the normal week includes.

One thing about not having Internet is that I am getting more reading done and crocheting which is not all bad. The two books I would recommend for ideas for Christmas are

The Quick-Start Guide to the Whole Bible by Dr. William H Marty and Dr. Boyd Seevers
it is an excellent resource for those who want to delve more into the Bible and their studies. Next is The Busy Mamas Bible Study 30 days in 1 Corinthians 13 by Pam Forster. It is a great Bible Study especially for those who seem to run out of time, they think, to read and study the Bible.

For those who like Christian Fiction I would suggest Annie's Stories An Ellis Island Novel by Cindy Thomson it is a wonderful book. For those who like real nonfiction and are football fans I recommend Sidelined by Chuck Pagano it is the story of his battle with Leukemia and his Faith to get through the struggle. These are just a few of the books I suggest and have read lately.

Last I have been trying to study my Bible more, with all that is going on in the world I believe now more than ever we need to be closer to God and to be studying, reading and memorizing His Word.  I am starting a new study of Daniel and also 1 Corinthians this week and hope you will join me. If you are leave a comment and we can share thoughts on what we are studying.

Verse for memorizing this week is

Psalms 119:105 Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path KJV

I am also already starting on Christmas gifts and ideas so that we get a head start this year. I believe that homemade gifts that are made with love are the best. I hope to incorporate homemade with little things I buy for those I have to buy for. Most of all I want to remember and share the real reason for Christmas and share God’s love with others, what better gift is there but to share Jesus with others?

That’s what has been happening and the plans for the week. Remember that on Oct 3 the Left behind movie will be in theatres so plan on going to see it.

You KNOW Me OH Lord!

As I was reading my Bible today I was reading Psalm 139 and the first few verses really jumped out at me. Psalm 139:1-3 NIV
1You have searched me, Lordand you know me.
2You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.

Wow, think about it. God knows us and knows our thoughts, He know what we are doing and is familiar with us. That is such a comforting and sometimes scary thought to know God knows us in every way. Comforting because God knows us and understands in everything, He has intimate knowledge of us, which to me is a way to show just how much He loves and cares about us. If God didn't love us or care why would He get to know us and watch over us like these verses say.

Then at the end of Psalm 139 David says
Psalm 139: 23-24 NIV
23Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

He is asking God to look at his heart and test and know what is in his heart and if God finds anything that He doesn't like to show him how to change and to lead him in God's way, down the right path.

I think this should be our prayer each and every day, when we wake up and when we go to bed at night. Ask God to search us and our hearts and thoughts and show us anything we need to change and be forgiven for and then ask God to show us the path He has for us to follow and to help us follow it. God wants us to know Him and He is there willing to help and show us the way if we ask and then allow Him to show the way.

As I start back to studying and memorizing God's word this really was a good one to start with because I want be more like Jesus and to be what and who God wants me to be. I hope you will join me in this journey through the Bible and Memorizing. I am no scholar but  just a believer who is relying on God and the Holy Spirit to guide me.

I know it is a lot to memorize but I am going to write these verses on a note card and put it where I will see it through out the day to remind me how God knows me in all ways and how I want Him to lead me.

Verses to memorize this week
Psalm 139:1-3
Psalm 139: 23-24

Wk 2 of Challenge New Verses and Book Review

This is week two of the memorizing the Word Challenge. Week one went well for me. Week one's verses were
Ps. 119:11
Matt. 22:37
I hope you are memorizing these with me. If you have any suggestions of verses to memorize let me know in the comments.

This weeks verses are ones that some might already know but are imporant to remember in our walk with God.
Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV 5" Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
John 3:16-18 KJV "16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.  18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

These verses explain how much God loves us and has made away to Him through His son Jesus Christ. Then we also see that if God walks with us daily and all we have to do is trust Him and lean on Him and he will direct our way. He makes a promise that if we trust and lean on Him then he will direct us in our walk through life. Simple right. Well it is simple but we being who we are don't always do this. Trust is easy when everything is going good, but we stumble sometimes when life gets hard. We try to say we are trusting but also try to figure things out on our own. We need to memorize this verse so that when things come up and we stumble we can recall this verse and follow it. God knows we are human and will fail sometimes and the other verses tell us how He has already made away to be forgiven through Jesus all we have to do is believe and give our hearts to Him.

I hope you will continue the challenge this week and memorize these verses with me.

I wanted to include a book review of a book that I love and think is great for studying.

Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God by Francis Chan
The book talks about how awesome it is that God who made everything loves us and loves us enough to give up his precious Son for us. He helps us to understand more about God and his love.  You need to read this book it will change you in a positive way. I recommend that everyone read and study this book, it brings you closer to God and helps you grow in your faith.

Leave a comment and let me know if you are memorizing the verses and how it is going. Also leave a comment on what you think of this book. If you have any suggestions of books let me know also.

New Challenge

I have been thinking for awhile that I really need to get back to memorizing Bible verses. I kept telling myself my memory isn't what it use to be and I don't know if I can remember the verses now like I did when I was younger. Really if you think about it we remember all sorts of things that are really useless, like what happened last night on our favorite TV shows.  Sometimes I think we fill our minds with the wrong things. We need to know God's word and as the Bible says to hide it in our hearts. "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee." Psalm 119: 11 KJV Our hearts and minds should be on God and knowing his word helps us grow in our walk with him. I read in a book one time, when I was a kid, that we should memorize God's word so that if they ever took our Bibles from us we would still have his word with us. I thought at the time that they would never take the Bible from us but now as I get older I am not so sure. I want to delve into God's word with a renewed passion and let God speak to me through his word. I also am challenging myself to memorize at least two verses a week. As Christians we need to start arming ourselves to be able to stand up for our faith and our God.

My two verses for this week are Psalm 119: 11 and Matthew 22:37

"Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee." Psalm 119: 11 KJV

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind Matthew 22: 37 KJV

I hope you will join me in this challenge. Let me know if you are going to try and learn and memorize along with me.

Have you been watching The Bible on History

Last night was night two of The Bible on History Channel and I was wondering if anyone else was watching and what you think of it? I think that it has been good and well done. It moves through the stories pretty fast so you have to pay attention. Pleased so far with all they have done. I find that it makes us dig into the Bible to read the stories again to make sure they are following the Bible and it gives us a conversation starter too. I am looking forward to watching the rest of the series. What is your take on the series?

Verses for today to memorize are :
John 13: 34-35 KJV 34 "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another."

Micah 6:8 KJV " He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?"

Quote for this week:
God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing.
C. S. Lewis

God's Masterpiece

Matthew 5:14
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid
I love the verse Eph. 2 : 10 NLT  "For we are God’s Masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago". I love to quote or think of this verse every time I think that I am not good enough or I am not special. When I think there is nothing that I can do or I have no talent I recall this verse and know that none of that is true according to God's word. We are special and God created us and made us new in Christ so that we could do the things He has planned for us. It might not be what we would think of doing, but it is what God has planned for us. He made each one of us unique and special, His masterpiece. So when I am thinking that I am not enough then I am really criticizing God for He is the one who made me into who I am. God has a job for all of us to do, we just have to pray, and meditate on what it is and then jump in and do what God has planned for us. Most of all I try to remember that I am special because God made me and He made me and molded me into the person He wants me to be.

Another favorite verse of mine is Jer 29:11 NIV   "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
God has a plan and it doesn't include harm but hope and a future. What a great promise from God.

I try to repeat both of these verses everyday along with Rom 8:1KJV "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit". and also Rom 8:28 KJV "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." and Rom. 8: 31 NIV "What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?"

So next time you are feeling down or thinking that you are talentless or not special remember these verses.  Try to memorize them so that they come to mind when these feelings start and remember most of all YOU ARE GOD'S MASTERPIECE and HE LOVES YOU
